Default Standard Horizon Intrepid LE or Quest

Which one of these is the better unit? I can get the Intrepid for a little less money but the Quest seems to have a few more features. Is either radio significantly better? Thanks

Are these the "Plus" models? I have a Quest that I have had for two years. Great radio, no problems.

Check out Standard Website.

I have the Intrepid LE with DSC running through a 3' Shakespear base loaded antenna and it booms..... no problems thus far. The one thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't display the scanned channels, as they are being scanned like my 350 handheld does. The LE just shows a scanning icon, but I've gotten used to it........

My order of choice would be:

intrepid plus
Quest plus

intrepid LE
quest

The plus models have a hinged cover on the dsc button...the others have a plastic cover that will fall on the floor and get lost about the second time you use the radio. Not a problem unless you have kids who like to push buttons. The plus radios are much louder than the others....that's speaker volume in your boat. The intrepid plus is better than the quest plus because it can send a received dsc signal from another boater directly to your gps plotter. The quests can not do this... I don't know if the intrepid LE had that function (it's discontinued now).

I use an intrepid plus.

If you can find a Spectrum+, I would consider it. Boat/US and West carry them. When connected to the NMEA outputs from the GPS, it will display Lat/Lon as well as speed, time, and track.

The Intrepid only has a 2 line display (Lat/Lon).

I think the Spectrum may be on the way out...I picked one up at Boat/US for $130 and there was also a $40 rebate. A $300 radio for $90 is hard to beat....

I used the Quest as my backup before I tore the boat apart and it did great.
