Default Garmin ..... G2 Vision 2010 .... first look

Final got a chance to take a look at the new G2 Vision 2010 features. The 3D Mariners View and Perspective views are much crisper as is the under water chart detailing.

You can form your own opinions from these pictures I took this afternoon.

Mariners Eye View (location is the Big Rock area located 33 miles SE of Cape Lookout NC. Depths vary from 100 to 1000 feet moving west to east)

Directly overhead view ......

Same view Perspective View ......

Mariners Eye View .......

Perspective View ........

Mariners Eye View 25 percent depressed .....

Perspective View .....

Bottom Contour Fishermen View ..... a new look. Detail stays the same throughout the range scales.

Default Some HD video

of the G2 Vision 2010 displays.

Video cam be played in HD if your computer has the capability, if not, it will play just fine in the standard format.

Nice... Questions.

1) Wasn't there something where you can update the map for 1/2 price? How/What is that all about?
2) How do I know, on the Garmin site, which are the 2010 and which are the older ones?

Thanks,
Pete

Pete, yes Garmin has a trade-in program. The easiest way is to call Garmin and tell them you want to upgrade. They will give you an RMA number you can send your old chip back to. If you need it asap, they will sell you a new at full price and credit back the difference when you return the old chip.

Pretty easy. I'd prefer a deeper discount, similar to what C-Map offers, but this is still worth doing if you already have the chip.

Default Thanks Gerg you can also

email them but that takes a little longer than the phone call. You'll pay half of the MSRP for the updated card of your area. It's worth your time to do this. The only requirement is you have to return your old chip to Garmin with the RMA #. The process takes about 7 days.

When you get them on the phone just tell them you want to take advantage of the 50 % trade in program for current owners of the G2 Vision series.

Coming April the 1st you'll also be able to download both the G2 and G2 Vision updated charfts from the Garmin website.

Tom,
What are you trying to show/doing in the shot titled:
G2 Charts embedded in G2 Vision Chart View
Never herd of that "verbage"/ feature???

I got my 2010 chip yesterday, was fooling with it last night as well. The change in the detail levels / range scales of the Fishinbg Chart is a nice improvement.

Default Embedded G2 Charts

They've increased the level of detail in the Chart View to mirror what you see seaward of the COLREG Line of demaration on the G2 Charts. Remember, the G2 charts used with the G2 Vision ones stop at COLREG Line, in other words they cover seaward of the inlets and or harbors.

I almost follow that, but not quite. If I'm correct, your saying they increased the detail on the G2 Vision charts to match the regular G2 charts, in the offshore water areas. Correct?

And PS - I'm sorry, but who was the real dumb-ass at Garmin to name them both "G2"?? That does nothing but cause confusion.

Default PRBuzz .... The 50 % update offer is for ANY G2 Vision Card

no matter what year. I turned in a 2007 G2 Vision Card ... received the new 2010 update two days ago. The 3010 is not G2 Vision compatible.
