Default JBL remote questions

Well i've narrowed my radio search to the JBL MR-25. I chose MP3 over satellite radio. I can fit about 100 songs on a CD and Sirius didn't carry NASCAR anyway, so who cares. XM had no way to use a wired remote easily.

On to my question:

What is the configuration of the retangular JBL remote? How long are the leads? Does it work well? How about the small circular one? I have heard the button will wear out fast and the rubber will tear...any truth to that?

Any other opinions on JBL remotes is welcomed....

Thanks,

I had the small circular one with an MR-20 or 25(?). It worked ok, but no display to tell you what you are doing. It only came with about a 1 foot lead, but it is easy to extend. Think it was just 3 wires.

For my current boat I got a Sony and bought the wired sony remote with display (rmxm10B). It's a much better unit, larger, has a backlit dispaly and cost a lot more. I bought an automotive Sony with a lot more features than a marine unit, (xm controller, mp3, sub controller) and mounted it in a polyplanar gimbal mount enclosure in my cabin. Haven't gotten around to cutting the remote in yet. Am trying to decide whether to install it in the aft part of the cockpit or on the dash.

Think I paid $129 for the remote.

Will the Sony remote control the XM functions? My radio will be inside the console, so I'm not terribly worried about marine style, but it would be a plus.

Don't know for sure if the remote will control the XM tuner. I had hoped the XM in the model number of the remote referred to that, but probably not. The tuner will control multiple disc changers.

Actually I don't even know how you would change the xm stations with the head unit, either, but the specs say it will.

Here are all the specs.

Edit:

Here is the head unit I have. It will control an XM tuner, so I would think I would have the controls on the remote. Maybe crutchfield can answer this if you want to know.
