Default Radar effecting my compass

I have a Raymarine 10xx radar monitor mounted about 12 inched from my compass. I think this may be screwing up my bearings. Any ideas if I can shield this monitor . Has anyone had any similar trouble with electronics and compasses?

you can shield it with mu-metal foil. However moving it or the compass will be easier.

What is that foil and where can I get some? Mounting room and having it where I can reach it are my challenges. The foil may be my best bet.

do a web search with the name I provided. it is a metal that will block magnetic fields. It can be bought in foil form.

I think that foil is made of nickle and iron, so it will likely oxidize in a rust green sort of way. The compass can probably be adjusted to account for this deviation.

Before you do anything else, why not do a compass swing, then either adjust the compass or create a deviation card? Takes a little time, but not that hard to do. Here's some more info on it: http://www.navis.gr/marinav/comerror.htm

Just dont adjust it with the display turned on, and expect the compass to give the same bearings with the display turned off. Keep that in mind and it might just do the trick.
