Default Digital vs Shakespear - hands down...

Last year I added a new 8' shakespear galaxy dual band vhf/cell antenna along with a new icom radio. This was in addition to an older 8' shakespear and an older vhf that came with the boat. I had used a SWR meter on both radios and antennas and really couldn't get SWR any better than just under 3. I changed connectors and looked for nicks; nothing helped. Neither antenna worked any better regardless of which radio I connected it to.

Then, as bad luck would have it I forgot they were up as I went under a bridge I don't normally pass through and they both broke .

So I ordered Digital antenna replacements since folks here were really high on them. WOW. What a difference. SWR on both radios is down to less than 1.5 (same meter and radios). Transmissions seem clearer also or so people say.

Not really scientific, but I am glad I chose the Digitals over the Shakespear. Ymmv.
