Default C series update

The c series update is on the Raymarine website, for all who need it.
It did wonders for my machine, fixed all the problems I was having with my C80 unit.
Very happy with this unit. Can't get over what a great unit it is.
Redraw is super now. No more zoom problems.

How much does a flash card reader/writer cost?

You'll need a compact flash card and reader. I got a 6 card reader that I use for my digital camera as well, I think it went for around $30.00. It can read 6 different types of cards. Hunt around the web, they range from 8-50 bucks. I googled "compact flash readers". I use the cf card to back up my waypoints to my pc as well.
Good luck.

Thanks very much for the information. You would think that RayMarine would notify the registered users of the C Series that an upgrade is available?
Thanks to THT I got the link.

Thanks Harry for cutting to the chase as far as the link goes.....

And Tunachick couldn't agree more. Huge difference now - redraw is awesome and my "chart" now displays more of the info I was hoping to see. So much faster now - no comparison to what it was like before.

Mine works fine, but I'll swap the newer version just to get a few more features, like being able to offset the position of the boat on the chart so the real world matches the display. I could do it on my HSB2 units, but not on the C-series...really annoying when the chart shows me sitting on the breakwater when I'm 20 feet away, smack dab in the middle of the basin entrance.

WOW!
What a difference, it is hard to believe the redraw rate can be so much faster. I like the fact that the radar range is now on the chart in overlay mod. I will be going out Sunday so I will see if the reboot problem is gone. Harry, I wouldn't hesitate to do the upgrade I think you will be pleasantly suprised.

BareCat
I don't know if you registered online with Raymarine but they sent me an email notifying me of the update. Maybe they didn't send it to you yet.

I bought a 64MB PNY Technologies Compact Flash card to save my waypoints to. I did not realize that you could save your waypoints etc. right to the Navionics gold card. Can I have use my existing CF card with the waypoints on it to download the new upgrade, 2.12? Do I have to erase the waypoints? Sounds like I only need a CF reader/writer and I am good to go. Thanks in advance.

dpdash,
I believe you have to use a different CF card to download the new software from your PC. You can use your existing card to backup your waypoints/tracks/routes etc. At least that's what I did and I had no problems at all. What a difference it made.

I used the blank cf card to backup my waypoints, put them on my home pc. then used the same card to download the update to. I had no problems. Very easy.

Harry, the update is really worth the touble, there are more page options, with custom pages, A chart offset calibration function , which may or may not help you.

I was notified via email about the update, I did register online though.

Chart offset is actually the one feature I wanted and could not find. I'm definitely doing the update.

Tunachick, I bought a CF reader/writer today and tried to open the file that was my saved waypoints. It could not open, and after spending over an hour and a half on hold at Raymarine(1-800-drop-dead) they told me that now, there was no way to open them but very shortly there would be a software program on the website that would allow you to manipulate the waypoints, add some on your pc etc.. You said that you put them on your PC, but did you open them? Raymarine also said I could use the same CF card with the waypoints on it to do the software upgrade.

db, Your right, I saved the waypoints to my pc, but I could not open them either, as there is no program associated with them to do so. I am just able to store the file on my pc. I do this periodically to keep an updated list. It would be great to be able to do something with them on the pc, but at this point, it's only a backup tool.

Well, I downloaded the update to my CF card, saved my waypoints to the Nav Card, followed the instructions and my unit never recognized the CF card and did not go into the software upgrade screen. It doesn't look like it is recognizing the card. Ray told me that even though it had my waypoints on it, it would work for the upgrade, I'm not so sure. I would hate to have to buy a blank card just for that when I have a perfectly good one. Maybe I will store my #'s on my PC, erase them on the CF card and try again.

DP Dash, I used a PNY card that I had for my digital camera. It did not work. Would not recognize the card. I bought a 64 MB San Disc card on sale at staples for $24.00 and it worked perfectly. My advice to all is to use a San Disc Card as Raymarine recommends. Get the smallest size you can find or if you have a digital camera get a larger card as it will not go to waste.
