Default Garmin 3010C

Has anyone seen or used the new 3010C. I've been reading about it on Garmin's website and for what it can do it sounds unbeatable. I found it for a really good price almost $30.00 cheaper than anywhere else. Just wondering if anyone has used one yet.

Not me.......and I think they are just beginning to ship now. yachtjim would know.

As for the features, my understanding is that there is little difference vs. the 2010C in the basics......just that now you can interface to the new options of sat weather and radar (once released this Fall).

I havent see one in person yet but, from what I read about it on Garmin's website, I must have one! Real time weather without my laptop and XM Radio plus the display is huge... Sold! The hunt for a good price begins....

There is little difference unless you are planning on adding radar and the weather. And yes everything is shipping now. THe 3010C and the weather Radar is going to be release early 2005.

I was on the phone with Garmin regarding something else and asked about the 3010, said that you can use anyone's radar as long as the NEMA spec was the same. Sorry I dont remember the details

Reel-tor, there is zero chance that a radar's graphical image data can come over NMEA. It is much too slow of an interface, and the spec doesn't support that operation. I think what they may have meant is that you can communicate to the radar. Basically that lets you superimpose the location of your next waypoint in a route on the radar.

The monthly subscpriction to the weather radar is $50.00 .

I am getting a 3010c on my SeaVee but not paying $50 a month for a radar overlay

You found a $2,800 unit for" $30 cheaper than anywhere else?" and you think 1% cheaperr is a deal?

I've been playing with a 3010c for the past few days and it's got a lot of improvements and a few additional features over the 2010> The screen is crisper, refreshes faster, and easily cleanable ! The 3010 is available only in a color version and I'll be upgrading my 2010c as soon as the 3010's start shipping (probably in September).

reel-tor: dwh is correct. The only radar antenna that will work with the Garmin units will be their own propriarity antenna. And I was wrong about the shipping as the 3010c's are shipping now.
