Default Northstar 952 Help!

On to checking out my Northstar 952 and it seems to have a problem. While sitting on the trailer with a heading of 180 degrees according to my compas, the 952 reading keeps flashig 140-220 and everywhere in between.Every 2-4 seconds it flashes another reading. The little boat icon, also keeps shifting position between those same headings.Any advice.I have not used the machine and just turned it on for the first time.I have had other brands and this doesn't seem normal....Thanks Doug

Sorry, can't help. I just went thru the manual and I found nothing about your problem.

Try Northstar 978-889-2000 in the morning.

I think this is normal. Our 951 will continually search for a bearing while at rest, I think. I'd be willing to be that as soon as you start moving one direction or another it instantly settles.

Default Northstar 952 Help!

I used to have one on my old boat. If it is giving you a correct position reading (lat/lon) and you do not inadvertently have it navigating to a waypoint, there is probably nothing wrong with it. It has no vector available since it isn't moving and probably doesn't have any stored data. As noted, once you start moving, this should stop. From that point forward, it will be less of an issue unless you are stopped for a long time because it will use the last known vector as an averaging point -- though it will still wander somewhat as you notice.

Many other GPS plotters do this, for example the Garmin 2006 that I have now.

Thats not a problem. It may think you are moving very very slowly due to very minor flucuations in readings but I think all GPS will do that. Now if you are moving and it does that, you have a problem.

My 952 does the same thing while I'm tied up in the slip, once you begin moving it's on the money all day.
