Default Lowrance X-113c HD shutting itself off during startup

This unit worked in October but when I turn it on, it shows the startup screen for about 30 seconds (the one with the fish on it) and then just shuts down.

Three possibilities I can think of:
1) hard drive crashed
2) unit doesn't like 38 degree temperatures
3) something got messed up when the boat was in the shop, when the mechanics were hooking up 2 other (Humminbird) units that are also on the boat

I suspect it's not #3 (if the unit got power enough to show the startup screen it should at least boot up, right?) and assume it's not #2 (people fish with these units in sub-40 degrees right?) . So at this point I'm suspecting a hard drive crash... is there any way to see diagnostic messages during startup? Thanks for any suggestions.

Check your 12volt power and ground connections. These machines use alot of juice during the start up process, and if it's not available they shut down.

For the record the problem turned out to be a bad map chip! I never would have guessed that it would cause the unit to shut itself off - would have expected it to display an error message and use the default map. No idea why the chip went bad - it was working in October, then sat in the boat over the winter. (Maybe the cold affected it?) Sometimes it's the simplest things....

I was going to say, the one i have did that and I reset the map chip and the trouble went away. Just clean the chip connections and try it again.
