Default Built in bluechart G2 vs add on card? Any

Is there a quality difference between the Garmin bluechart G2 that comes preloaded
in the 32XX series chartplotters and the ADD ON G2 chart on a card for a specific region?
In specific the Chesapeake bay chart card (G2 not the newer G2 vision) vs. the preinstalled
coastal maps that came with the unit? Any feedback is much appreciated ! Thanks

they are supposed to be the same, but in the 32xx you get ALL the detail coastal nautical charts - not just one region (the preload is G2). the Vision chips are the add-on by region charts with the bells and whistles. ron

I think someone said you can get a bathy chart for the 3xxx series via chips, but I don't know if that is on the standard G2 chips for a given area or a specialty chip.

That might be useful if you fish, there is little or no bathy info on the built-in charts.

Garmin's stuff is nowhere near as good as some other bathy/cartography products (personal opinion guys, put the knives away), but it can be useful.

Don't know about the bahamas, I'll check when I get a chance, or you could call garmin.

"Bathy" is shorthand for bathymetric, or detailed bottom contouring. It will show you where structure is and how steep the ocean floor elevation changes are.

If you are fishing, that is important to know because bait will congregate on structure, and predators will congregate on bait.

Some bathy charts are just very detailed contour charts, with lines every fathom instead of every 20 fathoms. Others are 3d renditions of the bottom,
