Default Transducer Question for pbraffitt

Peter,

I'm putting an airmar M260 into a World Cat 270SC. Unfortunately I'm going to have to have the bottom painted. What impingement will this have on the transducer signal? What are your recommendations for minimizing distortion (e.g.-some sanding of the paint, types of paint, copper content, etc)? Thanks

Cat

Default Transducer Question for pbraffitt

cmi

thanks for the reply. I called that number and got the phone run around. Never did speak with a real person but did have a nice conversation with a recorder detailing the problem. Hope that works. Anyway thanks for the feedback.

Default Transducer Question for pbraffitt

catmandu,
Did you get the answer to your question? We had a crew in Miami so phone assistance in the office was scarce for a week or so.

Default Transducer Question for pbraffitt

catmando,
damm I hadn't thought about the bottom paint. I've been figuring out about possibly mounting a M260 in our Sea Cat and never gave the bottom paint a thought. Let me know what you find out on that.
Thanks

Default Transducer Question for pbraffitt

Peter,
I never did get a return call, but fortunately you answered my question via e-mail.

vc,
per Peter, don't worry about the copper in the paint. The main issue is avoiding it's use in a thru hull transducer where the paint comes in contact with the coating on the transducer (obviously not a problem with an in hull ducer).
I did get another opinion suggesting masking off the area over the transducer, painting the hull with copper based paint then using non-metallic paint over the transducer. Peter says that it isn't really necessary.

Default Transducer Question for pbraffitt

VC,
my electronics guy basically said he would be unable to get access to the aft sponson in the WC 270 and recommended putting in a smaller transducer (600kw). Since the boat is currently in the build process, I had the factory install the M260 prior to the decking.

catmando,
ok - thnks. I know if I am to install the 260 in the aft area of my Sea Cat, it's going to be "fun" do to limited access. I took some measurements and it is doable, but challenging. It's interesting that Mental Floss installed his about midship according to one of his posts above. Had not really given that any thought.
