Default 582L screen very dark...

My new 582L is giving me a problem. the screen is very dark. Almost to dark to see. The voltage is correct and the brilliance is maxed out. Today was the first time in the water and as the day wore on the unit became brighter, but never very bright. When the brilliance is turned all the way down, the display is virtually black. Some advice was given on the effects of heat on the TFT screen, but this unit was never exposed to any direct sunlight or heat. It is a new install. I'm guessing a faulty unit? Any advice would be appreciated...

No, that's doesn't help. It's too dark in white mode also- it's just too dark...

Pete-
Your 582L is broken. Don't knock yourself out trying to find any tricks. Contact Furuno, or the dealer you bought it from, and get it fixed.

had the same problem with my new one for the first hour in water. after running it for a while it slowly became lighter, and after about 2 hours it worked perfectly and was just as bright as my old 600L. before you return the machine, you might want to give it a breaking in period. i don't know why it worked that way, but it now works fine. knowledge of electronics is not my strongest suit, but the LCD crystals may have to be "broken in" some before they work correctly

jsw, I would have gone with that theory but the next morning the display was dark again. For that kinda dough I want one that doesn't come complete with problems. I had a 667 crt for years and was very happy with that unit(even in direct sunlight). Furuno was excellent on the phone, and I'm paying overnight freight each way, so I should have it back soon. They'll pay for three day air, but I'm way to impatient for that...
