The most obvious difference between the units is that the 2006 is a chartplotter with a sounder option, while the 760 is a sounder with a chartplotter option. Since you are looking at these two units, I assume you are looking for a chartplotter/sounder combo. Similarly equipped, the L760RC is a couple of hundred dollars cheaper, slightly larger screen (especially important if you are going to split screen), and able to interface with other Raymarine products. As a pure chartplotter, I would go with the Garmin for the alpha-numeric keypad if nothing else. I have an RL74CRC Raymarine chartplotter/radar combo, and I absolutely hate having to scroll up and down to enter and edit waypoints. Screen resolution is great, but I find myself using my Furuno chartplotter instead of the Ray because the user interface is so much better.

If thinking L760, make sure it is one raymarine is just coming out with. Last year's models ok, overpriced, buggy and definitely not daylight viewable, only twilight or under shade. Mine is back to them now for $500 to fix the bugs, new screen would be about $1,000.

IMHO Garmin is a much better machine. Raytheon is overpriced. I think Garmin is tops in it's field. I like the 2006. It is rumored a price drop will happen shortly for the 2006.

Garmin is tops in the GPS field - hands down. But Raymarine and Furuno have better stand alone fish finders. If you can only have a combo, as opposed to two separte units (in order to get the best of both worlds) then decide which means more - the GPS or the fishfinder? Go with the appropriate manufacturer.
