Default What unit you have? cost, and how deep can you read? (salt water)

Hi,
i have the garmin 188c dual sounder and i wonder why it just gives up after 300ft. (even if not moving)

It supposed to go up to 1500 feet in saltwater under righgt conditions. ( removing the salt? hehehe)

anyhow...
what do you own, what does it cost and how deep can you read?
I think about buying a new unit.

in my area i have huge dropoffs that go down to 3000-6000 feet ( not that i want to see whats down there but geezzz 300 ft is nothing.

thanks.
