Default GARMIN Software Updates...

KennethK posted a message about an available update for the 2006. I went to the GARMIN site and found a number of updates that are new. The new releases are dated January 22, 2003 and are available for the following models:

GPSMAP 2010 & 2010C-covers GSD 20 Sounder
GPSMAP 2006 & 2006C-covers GSD 20 Sounder
GPSMAP 232
GPSMAP 182 & 182C
GPSMAP 162
GPSMAP 152

Sounder models :
238S
188 & 188S
168S

Some of the updates look pretty extensive as well as interesting!

just a thought, but do you have the garmin set for garmin comm mode? If it's set for nmea you won't be able to connect to it.

I found the problem!!! It looks like my unit has to go back to garmin for some work!!! I looked at the 18 pin connector on the unit and one of the poles is broken off!! Well at least I found it before fishing starts!!

I'd like to get the update for my unit,as well but I do not have a serial link. Does anyone know the part number ?

Is it possible to get the update through a prgrammable memory card ? I have the programmer and memory cards.

Egotrip,

If I understand what you have correctly the answer is yes, you can get it an program it into a card and then on into your machine.

I should learn to look before asking questions.
The site is very clear about two file types that can be downloaded. One is for the serial link, and the other is for memory card readers.

The instructions are clear on how to install the software and perform the upgrade.

Thanks again,

Ernie

010-10276-00 is the AC/PC Adapter from GPSdiscount.com for $45.00

I just got it the other day!

Secondly, you can't update the firmware through a datacard, only with the PC connection!

Actually, I was told by Garmin that you can take your regular Power Cord and there are a couple of wires on it that hook up to a $.99 Radio Shack connector that goes to your computer.

From there you can download any updates.

FWIW, I've not done any updates and not noticed any problems with my 182.

RE: "Secondly, you can't update the firmware through a datacard, only with the PC connection!"

As I said to Thom...The file descriptions are very clear. One file is for a direct connection through a serial cable to your gps, and the other is for programming a data card that will update the firmware, once installed inthe gps.

Oh yeah...My unit is not color.

The job is done and working.

Thanks again Thom for the info

Baileydale,
Since each unit can be pretty unique, you will need to view the changes for your unit at Garmin's website.

You should visit www.garmin.com, and go to the software updates link. Once there, select your unit and click the agreement to their policy. The next page will give a detailed description of all the changes incorporated in the update.

Good luck,
Ernie
