Default Radar mount on t-top with Crow's Nest

I would like to mount my 18" dome radar on my Bluewater 2150. There is a crow's nest that folds down for trailering the boat. I am mounting a Furuno 1712 and have had one company suggest that I remove my crow's nest mount the radar on the standing platform then build a new platform 9 inchs above and re-mount the crow's nest above the radar dome. I have been told that the four legs of the raised crow's nest will not interfere with the radar reception.

I was hoping for any other suggestions. I want to be able to continue trailering my boat and I want it to still look good. With the crow's nest up I am about 13feet high. Crow's nest down minus 3 to 4 feet, which allows me to pass under traffic light, etc.

Thanks for the input.

its my understanding that human body parts should not spend much if any time in the sweep path of the radar thus 9" raised platform suggestion makes sense to me. I've seen lots of boats with 4 posts in the sweep path and heard no complaints.

A PIC would be great! Will you use radar when in crow's nest? As I understand what you are trying to do: why not mount Raydome foreward or behind crow's nest posts. The post will probably not interfer with radar. I assume you feet will interfer with radar, that's why your possibly raising platform? Also, you might want to consider radar dome on a stalk/strut www.scanstrut.com above you head as you stand on platform. www.edsonmarine.com has some great stuff, too. It would fold down with platform. Also give you greater range.

The legs of the crows nest definitely wont interfere with reception. As someone mentioned, will you be using the radar while you are in the crows nest? I don't know why you would be, so mount it in front of the crows nest. That sounds like quite aproject to raise up your crows nest and build a new floor for it, plus a lot of extra weight high up that certainly won't help w/stability.

Default Radar mount on t-top with Crow's Nest

I have thought about mounting the radome on a platform that extends forward of the front of the t-top. To me rebuilding the crow's nest platform etc is a big project and increase in costs.

I have seen some radar arm that extend up and down. Has anybody seen one or uses a radar mount that folds down. I would also most prefer a fold down unit but have not seen any.

Thanks everybody for the help.
