Default Lowrance BR24 Broadband Radar Installed - First Impression

Here are some quick shots of a BR24 we just put on a whaler with a HDS-8 display. Just want to give me first impressions. Installation was very easy, similar to a Garmin dome in that you do not need to open up the radar to make any connections. A single cable plugs into the bottom of the BR24 dome with contains the network cable and power. The bolt pattern is the same as the Garmin and Raymarine Domes. The cable comes out of the back of the display so if using a Seaview mount you will want the Raymarine type, not the Garmin type.

We integrated this one to a Navico (Lowrance) NEP-1 Hub which is also used for the Sirius weather on this particular boat.

Plug and Play - there was absolutely no configuration required. I fired up the HDS unit and the radar was there.

Performance - There is no "Standby" period like other radars, so as soon as you hit "Transmit" it transmits. And this one did just that. I tried it out in our work bay so I figured there would not be much to see. Wrong! I could zoom all the way down to 200' and pick out things in our parking lot. This was wayyy cool . The radar clearly shows our entrance road and parking lots among all the grass, boats, trees and other buildings. I was definitely impressed. Really impressed.

So, in short, these BR24's do exist and if I had to get across my parking lot in the fog I would certainly want one of these with me. Seriously though, the installation was easy, quality looks great, and performance was really good for the close-in scenerio I was able to test. Lowrance is making big leaps with their new products. I give it a major thumbs up.

SWEET! Are there any HDS / BR24 packages?
