Default Navnet 1953C

I'm about to rig a new boat.Has anyone used the 1953C with the 12kw 4' array???
Is the Bird finding capability superior with this unit and does the 6 color screen define small bird pods???

Thanks...

I have used one many times on a friend's boat that I run for him. It is a super unit with excellent resolution and picks up bids at a distance better than anything I have seen except for the 25kW commercial units. But the one I have used has a 6 foot array. If you are interested in spotting birds, you should go with the longer array if possible. The length of the array is what controls resolution, not power. A 2kW 6 foot array would be far better for spotting birds than a 2 foot 12kW (if they made such a thing). The color helps a bit, but there are so many factors that affect the strength of the return signal (which is really all that the color gradations are showing).

I'm in the process of installing the 1953c with a 4' open array. I started to go with the 6' array but on a center console with a 9'6" beam I thought it may look like I prepared for take off.

I've talked to a few 1953c owners and most say you can pickup small packs of birds 10 miles away. Time will tell...
