electronic pricing problem

I need opinions on what to do. I am purchasing electronic pkg for my new boat. Online stores are around $900 cheaper than my boat dealer price that he just came up with. The total from the dealer is around $8500. This does not include installation but his install pricing of around $1200 doesn't seem too bad. I know if something goes wrong he will be responsible since I bought it from him and he installed it but he still is over 10% above online stores. What would you do? Thanks.

I would start by seeing what the several sponsors of this board who are marine electronics dealers can do for you.

You've sent a very mixed signal there. For us little guys eight grand for an electronics package brings visions of a whopping good bunch of stuff. But then you say the guy who is not particularly inexpensive is going to charge you twelve hundred to stick it all in. I have to tell you, there are a lot of guys out there who have paid a lot more than that to get an electronics package installed that cost them considerably less than eight grand. See the problem?

Anyway just what do you have in the package you're looking for. I assume at a minimum an auto pilot, and either a network system or a serious radar, serious fish finder, a couple of VHF's an EPIRB, and a chart plotter that lookes more like a big screen TV. The thing is that if you got all that stuff I can't immagine being able to get it all installed for twelve hundred. A lot of guys pay close to that much for for having an autopilot installed, or just to have a large Radar installed.

Also ask the installer for a schematic/wiring diagram so you can trouble shoot the system after the warranty expires.

Well I decided to let my new boat dealer purchase and install the electronics. Arrived at a price for components at $8100. Installationd approx. $1200. If any problems one person to go to. I'm getting the raymarine value pack t52051 which includes rl70crc the 7" screen, raystar 120 gps sensor, dsm250 hd fishfinder sounder. ray 53 vhf. m92652 4kw radome,rl70c another 7"screen pathfinder radar, transom mount transducer(real hard on the hydra-sport to mount thru hull) maybe they will come up with a nice transom 1000w transducer. pathfinder smart heading sensor for radar overlay, y cable `splitter and two hsb cables. Also 2 flush mounts for screens, scan strut for radar mount with spacer and v tail. 2 ft fiberglass antennae extension for gps ant. and mount for gps ant. I hope this info can help anyone. I could have probably got better deal on electronics but install price wasn't bad.

Thanks I'll check it out. Its seems strange with all the microcircuits that the transducers are so big and bulky as well as this new large transom mount that from one of the previous posts you have to pull it up at certain speeds etc. Why can"t they make a nice compact simple transducer for transom mount. I'll pay extra for this if it exists. Sorry about my rant. Airmar hire some engineers that can design a suitable product. This is the age where smaller is better.

Happyfisherman,
you're spending over 8 grand for electronics. why are you looking at a transom mounted transducer? Get a decent accoustic window for the ultrasound signal and go with a thru hull or in hull transducer.
