Any opinions on a Raytheon 365 DF/FF? Pros/Cons ? Alterantive brands ? If so, why?

Greatly appreciated

I've got the predecesser - the Apelco 365. I bought this as a cheapie second unit for my lower helm station.

It's okay for the money, but definitely not a professional machine. The features are fair, and with the transom mount transducer positioned correctly, I keep a decent track of depth when running. At trolling speeds, I can keep a bottom lock down to about 450' in salt.

I like the paddlewheel speed sender. With the position on my transom, it is actually accurate within a mph or 2 at cruise, and pretty good for a trolling speed indicator. Since it has a resettable mileage log, it is handy for looking at fuel burn rate with my FloScan.

Be careful with the power plug in the back. I bent the pins on mine, as the o-ring tended to stick a bit and cock the plug. Use a little lube on the o-ring seal and you will be fine.

The plastic release base is nothing short of a pain in the butt. Mine no longer releases.

I've had mine 5 years, and except for a broken power pin issue (swapped under warranty 6 months after I bought it), I haven't had any issues except for the release tab on the base.

I agree with tidester, I have one that came with the boat. To good to throw away but I sure wish it would break! MUCH better units out there.
