Default Looking for Input Regarding Older Raython Electronics

Hello,
I've been getting some great input regarding a potential boat purchase on the other board and would like to get a little input regarding the electronics. Boat comes with the following early 1990 vintage electronics.

Raython R-21X 48 mile radar
Raython 580 Loran C
Raython 820 TH Color Depth/FF

Looking for some general input regarding expected performance of these units including reliability and serviceability? Do these units add any value to the boat? Should I plan on upgrading these electronics?

Thanks, Pete

"Looking for some general input regarding expected performance of these units including reliability and serviceability? Do these units add any value to the boat? Should I plan on upgrading these electronics?"

1. These units should prove reliable but just guessing on when they were made and installed I'd think they were approaching their useful life and service for them will be difficult to find.

2. These units, with the possible exception of the radar, add no value to the boat, and in fact the use of archaic equipment might be seen as reducing the value of the boat by some simply because you have to assume the cost of replacement.

3. You should plan on upgrading all of it, starting with the LORAN, but there is no great driver as long as they are working.

Basically what you have there is old equipment that was of good quality, not the very best but very good, back when it was installed. The biggest concerns I would have about it are its state of water proofing and what I expect is pretty slow operation. Today's equipment will be better water proofed, faster in operaton, fully capable of interfacing with other electronics, and generally a lot easier to use

As usual, Thom is correct. I bought a 95' boat with Raytheon radar/gps/ff and they are functional, but not easy to use. The radar is ok, the fishfinder is the best, reads at 1600' plus. The gps works well but it takes an act of congress to enter/delete a waypoint. The software is very cumbersome. I would plan on updating it soon. I am adding a 2010C with FF soon. IMO.
