Default Standard CPV500

Anyone using this product??? If so are you using the radar functionality??? If so how does it perform??? How is the fishfinder compared to the others in this space??? Still weighing my options and curious about this product it looks pretty enticing but I have a bad history with SH products although their customer service has been outstanding and they have kept me happy even through many returns and free upgrades. Any opinions appreciated.

I had the chance to test drive one and was very impresed. It's very fast with a good display and of course seamlessly integreates with their radios. The radar is the MDS series made by Sitex/Koden. You will also notice that the FF520 Fish finder is the same as Sitex's ES502. Sitex/Koden produces top notch equipment with a large following for the commerical end of the business. Many other name brand manufacturers have, and do use Koden to supply them with electronics.

I was all set to install the CP500 this spring. I already had the MDS 9 radar and FF520. I was going to use the VGA output of the CP500 as a second dispaly but when looking at the cost of decent marine display it was insane, I was better off going with a full blown networkable second display so end up selling the MDS 9 and FF520. I still have a new B744V tranducer that's on ebay for 100 bucks right now you're interested.

There are two excellant stand alone multifunction displays out there that I feel offer the best value and still maintain quality. The Standard Horizon is one and the other being the Norhstar M121. Both are outstanding values in a 12" dispaly. One other thing to consider is customer service and Standard is the best. They also back up their product with a 3 year warranty.

Good luck

Thanks RRR,
I am very familiar with Standards CS as I have had to use it quite often and never had a problem with the CS just the products. I just don't here much discussed about the Sitex gear so don't have any first person opinions of thier stuff although it looks pretty good and I know the Comm guy's do use it often. I am awaiting to find out if my secondary source of income is going to come through for me on this purchase. If so then I am going to probably go with a Furuno NN3D system but if that falls through then I am going to give this unit a serious look.

Albie

Just out of curiosity, which S-H products or types of products have been a problem? I have had the radios and just ordered another, so I'm familiar with them. But I have never totally loved my Garmin GPSs, and have also been looking at the S-H 500 and 550. Have you ever used any S-H GPS or plotter product? Thanks.

Keypine,
I currently have a CP155C chartplotter that has worked for 2 seasons without issue but before that I went through several CP150's and 2 CP155's before I got this one that seems to be devoid of gremlins. My issues seemed to stem from water intrusion into the device. That should not happen and I was told by a person at SH that the units are not waterproof which contradicts their own marketing literature. They went on to say I should put a plastic bag over it if it starts to rain. What a bunch of baloney but I have kept a ziplock freezer bag at the ready so that when it did rain I covered it just to keep from having to have to return it again. As I stated the current unit has worked fine for 2 seasons running and I don't expect to have any issues with it this season. I also don't expect to use it much more as I am in the process of upgrading everything. By the way I have had several of their VHF's and they have never given me a lick of trouble, I even spray the current Eclipse DSC unit when I wash the boat down and it doesn't seem to mind the washing.
