Default To flush mount or not to flush mount this VHF ????

I bought a Parker 1800 last fall that came with a new Standard Horizon Quest. Now in the half dozen times I had her out last fall before winterizing, I was not too happy with having the VHF mounted in the knee level compartment. The sound stunk and I couldn't tell what channel I was receiving. I'm considering flush mounting the VHF in a large space on the console, just below the throttle. First, is this unit worth flush mounting or should I upgrade? Second, if I do flush mount it, how hard will it be to patch and then remount a new unit? Third, is this a dumb place to mount a VHF? I'd post a pic to show you the available space but she is wrapped up until spring.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Sam

That is a very good VHF radio with DSC. I would choose a location that makes it easy for you to see the display. Post a pic of your mounting choices.

Also the old hole could proably used for a stereo !

If I might suggest something else to you as well as long as you're in a mounting mood. Give some thought to a set of external speakers for the VHF. For day to day use its really worth the effort and the couple of bucks a set of speakers cost.

Thom... I have a single external speaker. Do you have a set of speakers for your VHF? If so do you find that you get much better clarity?

Lookingforaboat Thom is right on as usual

Thanks Offshore 20

You might be able to purchase a Electronics Cabinet for your boat from Parker. Flush mount electronics look really cool, how long do you think they will work w/water standing on them?

Since you didn't mention it, I assume you do not want a T-Top w/radio box?
