Default FURUNO FCV667

I have recently purchased a Furuno cv667. This unit has a crt screen. I chose it over the 600l with lcd on the advice of several people who said they liked the crt display over the lcd and said the knobs on the 667 offered better contol tweaking the gain and using other functions. I purchased an in-hull transducer as well. I am trying to locate the mounting of the display unit and am concerned with it having problems with salt spray. I am running a 24' grady white cuddy that offers fairly good protection on the dash behind the windsheild, but after reading the istallation manual, they make it sound as if the unit is doomed to failure the second salt spray hits it. Has anyone else had experience with this unit? Do I need to build an enclosure on the dash to house it in, or will some type of removable plastic cover be sufficient on rough or rainy days?
