Default FURUNO WARRANTY

I have the 1732C NAVNET with the Sounder option . Bought it just about a year ago. Love it all, except the plotter function, which is weak. That's been covered in other posts, so we'll drop that.

The anti-glare coating on my unit has pretty much worn off. It seems that it requires lots of TLC and a special type of cloth and cleaners to clean. Like the fool that we can all be at times, I occasionally dry wiped the salt encrusted screen and probably used something wrong to clean it (windex, eye glass cleaner, who remembers?).

I wrote an e-mail to FURUNO (web has a convenient FAQ and request function), just to ask if the screen could be re-coated, replaced or upgraded. I expected to be quoted a price since it would not be a warranty issue- Obvious user neglect or misuse. I was thrilled to get the following reponse:

Thank you for contacting Furuno USA, Inc.

Technically, removal of the screen's protective coating is considered physical damage and therefore not covered by warranty. However, our shop policy has been to handle the replacement of the bezel assy under warranty as a one time courtesy. Solvents cannot be used for cleaning the screen - this is the biggest culprit for removal of the protective coating. It is recommended that only mild soap and water be used for cleaning purposes and that a micro fiber cloth (such as 3M brand) be used for wiping to prevent scratches.

Please send in your unit for bezel replacement. We will handle this under warranty and will send you instructions upon return to assist in care and protection of the screen. Our address is:

Thank you for contacting Furuno USA, Inc.

Thanks again for contacting Furuno USA, Inc. We hope we have been able to answer your question. Please feel free to contact us with further questions in the future. Thank you for contacting Furuno USA, Inc.

When you post a question or reponse, you get a confirmation that says an answer should be forthcoming in 1-2 business days. That response came back in less than an hour!

I guess that's why they are the best!

I didn't. It might have saved me the problem.

If in doubt, go to www.furuno.com and go to the support area and send them an e-mail from there. They 'll let you know in less than a day.

BTW, don't forget to register your "Christmas Present" while you are there!

I sent a radar antenna and display back for repair that was not working. This was years beyond warranty. Got it back with a note: No charge, can't find anything wrong. It was my old case with all new insides, screen, buttons etc.

Very pleased.

I only have 3 pieces of Furuno equipment on my boat. A 667 Bottom machine, A 1850 DF and a 841 Radar system with a 36 mile 4 KW dome.
I have had 8 or so pieces of their gear over the years.
For warrenty, service, and performance they do set the benchmark. And their new Nav net stuff is a lot easier to set up and use then their competition.
They are expensive. Good support organizatoins cost money. I know, I work for one.
And that is where you get what you pay for.

FURUNO- All this superior technology, customer service, ease of installation, warranty and support is impressive.

But why are their manuals harder than Chinese 'rithmetic to understand? And cheesy too, I might add.

And I know I'm not alone in that opinion!

I live about 30 minutes from their East Coast Service Center, which is located in Denton Maryland. I have taken my 1650 GPS there twice for firmware updates. And I must say this is about the BEST place I have ever had work done on anything. The first time there I was given a tour of there shop, my unit was totally tested, firmware updated and I browsed the bench testing of various units. Top notch operation. And with this to consider for future electronic purchases....Furuno will be on the top of my list....even if some of the menus are tough to learn.

All for free

I have both of the new Navionics and C-Map cartridges on my boat. (That is because I bought the Standard CP 170 exactly when the price dropped, and then got a Steal Deal on the 1850 I have).
In terms of information on the Chesapeak Bay, Either of them are accurate and have a wealth (Sometimes too much) Information. I happen to like the Navionics chart set more due to scaling issues (It seems to flow more easily from one chart to the other then did the C-MAP), but both of them give a good value now that the prices have dropped so much (Thank you Garmin).

I sent my unit back for the bezel replacement.

Shipped FEDEX on Sat 1/18. Arrived at FURUNO Mon 1/20.

Got a call from Barbara, in Cust Svce, on Tues 1/21 confirming receipt. Asked a few questions on how/where it was installed in boat, how did I commonly use it , through hull or transom tranducer. etc. Said that they will be running sytems checks on it to make sure it is in spec, and would want to restore my customized setups the way I had them set.

Unit was back yesterday 1/23!

Bezel was fully replaced, all connection ports cleaned and shiny. Instructions on how to clean it included with a small package of some type of 3M cleaning cloth. There was some type of Diagnostic report indicating that someone ran a whole bunch of tests on the variuos circuits!

I am happy as a clam at high tide!
