Do you know if they've addressed the compatability issues with the Windows XP platform ;? ?

woops, left this out....

Platform Improvements:

Driver stability issue with Windows XP/ME/2000 fixed.
In User Data - Present Cartridges, ALL C-cards are read and identified now. No more 'SLOT EMPTY'.
Floppy Disk option in File Manager now gives warning regarding use of C-MAP floppies.
Lat/Lon grid now matches DD MM SS or DD MM.MM or DD MM.MMM settings.
Tide graphs now compensate for daylight savings time.
File Manager automatically recognizes User Card and slot.

I've ordered it but it will take a week or so since they are waiting on activation codes from italy (go figure...).

Because the XP problem was fixed last year with the "interim release".

Gerg,
Where did you get that info from? It's nowhere on the C-Map support site?? Was it a Club Cmap Email or something?

What I would like to know is why they are charging for it when the last software did not work properly. I understand that development cost money but they should not release something that is full of bugs. Even the interim fix that was supposed to help with XP had the biggest bug. It would hose your numbers when you saved them to your hard disk.

However, I do miss having a program with a PC interface. The C series uses Navionics and there is no program at all.

ChuckNduck are you listening?

Birdie, that was on c-maps webite this morning. I don't know when it appeared, but follow the link to pc planner.

I'm pieved about the charge also, but since I had to join the club anyway to get the best pricing on updating 2 wide+ chips it doesn't hurt quite so badly. Even MS gives you in-family updates for free. It doesn't look like this is even a full new version, since it's V3.3 and not V4.0. AQ few new features, but mostly it's stuff they should have delivered in V3.1.

I'm really more pieved about having to pay so much to update the chips themselves. The data is free to them (an Italian company) - our tax dollars provide it. All they do is download it onto a chip they re-use anyway (you have to turn in your chip and it has to be in working order - they reprogram it and sell it to someone else no doubt).

Sigh. Just wait till someone on the streets of Taipei figures out there is a market for these, they will be $10 a handful.

Here Here. Worse yet is the fact they are in the bidness to sell charts. We should be getting the software to view those charts for free. As you mentioned, the price and update price of those charts is WAY too high.

Once Microsoft finished their marine chart software, believe me, the industry is in for some SERIOIS changes.

Thanks Chuck, keep on them and let's get a PC interface to add numbers and manage routes.

BTW, my Navionics chip zooms down about 10 times furhter than my C-map chip did for the Ponce Inlet area. I'm very pleased about that.
