Are there any hand held GPS units that use C-Map NT?

It seems all the hand held units have a built in database. Does anyone know if there are units that will use the C-Map chips?

My Lowrance iFinder uses MMC cards, don't know if they will "go over" or not. I'll check the booklet and let you know....

Hello:
Garmin uses an internal and a proprietary format on some models. Lowrance handhelds use MMC cards in PC/DOS format or Navionics. Magellan uses either Compact Flash or SD cards.
Check www.c-map.com - All the mfgs listed there seem like chartplotter companies.
If you get a Lowrance unit (iFinder), you can make MMC cards from the Mapcreate CDROM package and use them in their plotters and the iFinder. They are not as detailed as the Navionics charts in that there are no depths and bottoms shown, but a single MMC card will work in both. The Navionics cards for Lowrance do not work in the Lowrance Plotters, as far as I know.
Good luck,
LC

The Magellan NAV 6000 (discontinued) used them, I'm looking for a good used one. I believe they will only work with NT cards (not NT+)

Magellan Nav 6000 has been discontinued and is one of the best. I use one as a backup to my Furuno 1850. They sit side by side and use the same C-Map cards - works as good as the Furuno! I also have one in my bag I take when I go on other boats.
Yes, they will use the C-Map NT or NT+ cards. I have a NT+ in mine.
I used to sell these and have a few left that were display/demonstrator units or units that customers traded in on fixed mounts, etc. The range from 125.00 for one that works fine but the backight will not come on or 175.00 for one in perfect condition. I have one at 200.00 that includes the swivel mount. All in original boxes with owner manuals.
You need to know that Magellan will no longer support or repair these units - that's why they are now selling so cheap.
Whether you get one of mine or some elses you can't go wrong -they are great units.

Mad Hunt,
I don't know if it's possible to transfer waypoints between the two. I havent tried because I use a computer program to do that.
I maintain master waypoint lists on my computer using gpsutility software. If I add any waypoints to any of my GPS units I merely upload them to my computer masterlist. Then whenever I need to update any GPS unit I bring it to my computer and download the applicable masterlist to the unit. I keep masterlists for my fishing, hunting, traveling, etc. That way I can use whatever GPS unit I want with whatever waypoint list is applicable. I also download to my friends GPS whenever we go hunting or fishing, that way we are all looking at the same waypoints.
I found this to be the best solution for me. I have a Furuno 1850 and a Magellan 6000 on my boat. I also use Magellan's Meridian and Meridian Platinum and 4000XL, Garmin's eTrex Summit and Streetfinder. With gpsutility I have full flexibility to use any GPS unit with any set of waypoints.
Another neat thing about gpsutility is it plots your waypoints onto a blank screen where you can see how they layout and you can determine bearing and distance between any waypoints. It also lets you make any waypoint the zero waypoint. Then when you look at any other waypoint it gives you bearing and distance from the zero waypoint. The program is inexpensive, easy and fun to use. It can be trialed or purchased at http://www.gpsu.co.uk/.
