Default Clarion - Should I fix it or buy something else.

I have a Clarion Double Din DFZ675MC mounted in the salon. It's only about 1 1/2 years old. I really like it but the SD card slot won't hold the card in, it keeps popping out. I can put a piece of tape over it but I really want it fixed.

Here's how my run around with Clarion went.

Called Clarion to see if they could help. Impossible to talk to a live person. Finally after pressing buttons for what seemed like an eternity we got a message with a phone number to call in our area..

Called and found out that they don't want to do repairs on Clarion anymore but did give me a number to someone in Chicago that is a Clarion repair center.

Called and told them my problem about the SD card not staying in. They told me they could fix it no problem. It would cost $45 dollars plus shipping. I thought, Great?

Got a call today and was told they now can't fix and it needs to go to the factory. The cost is going to be another $136.00. Now the kicker is they are still charging me $45 because they said they had to bench test it. I told them that was what the repair was suppose to cost. You don't need to bench test anything to see the card won't lock in place, you don't even need to apply power. It's obivious I'm being ripped off.

So what should I do? send it in? I'll have over $200.00 including shipping into this repair and who knows how long it will last. Or should I cut my losses now.

If I cut my losses does any one know of a manufacture who stands behind their product and has a system that will play CDs, radio and SD cards? Open for suggestions.

SD Cards? For music?? HUH?

$200 for repairing a CD player/Radio? First, what is a "repair"? I think I herd that word years ago, but can't remember the last time I herd it. Is it something that is still performed? I thought "repairs" were outlawed along with Transom mount tranducers???

Remove the unit, cut off the plug in the back, and throw it away. Hit it with a sledge hammer in the driveway. If you happend to have a transom mounted transducer laying around or on your boat, also remove that and also hit it with a sledge hammer.

Now go over to Ebay, pick out a brand new, featrue packed CD, MP3, USB (memory stick!!) player.... crimp the 6 or eight wires for speakers and power back on it, and enjoy for under $200.

Kind of thought so - Bought the unit about 18 months ago. They were about 400.00 then, runs the TV & does just about everything else except the SD reader is shot. And YEP it handles music on a SD cards. Very handy not having CD's laying all over. Thinking about putting an ipod on it maybe.

Quick update - It pays to buy from a reputable dealer. Bought the unit from Crutchfield so I called their customer service.

I wasn't expecting too much because I was told it was out of warranty, I was just looking for some suggestions and guidance on another system. The guy looked me up in their records and told me the unit is still under warranty and he would get the ball rolling to help me deal with Clarion.

By the end of the day I got a call from the service center telling me they're refunding my $45.00 bench fee and will be sending it to the factory for repair at no cost.

Thanks Crutchfield!!!!
