Default Garmin 238 - feeback?

While I know I should spend the precious few bucks on a color chart/FF, I really like the screen real estate on that 238 even though its grayscale. Seems like I can get the 188c for about $100.00 more - is it crazy to go for the gray 238?

I was faced with the same decision and bought a 238 from boaters world from ebay really cheap and brand new. The color 188c is a good unit but the 238 looks like a monster next to it. I've been out with it one time and I'm really impressed. I've got a 23ft boat and standing on the transom I can see the detail on the depth finder. The maps are good too and yes to me the larger screen is what sold it. Just my opinion and good luck. I'd recommend the 238 depending on what fishing you do. If you need a good depth finder go with a furuno but Garmin has come a long way also.

1500 ft. deep give or take a few. It is a 500 watt unit.

Thanks Fish. So no regrets about the smaller color units ( that are equal in price ) ? Cause I am close to picking the 238. Mind giving me a ball-park on what it cost you on E-Bay?

Cost about $850.00 on ebay. No regrets as a matter of fact I am extremely pleased with it. I also purchased a blue chart for my area (TPA to Key West) and it works fine. I would also take a look at them at www.boatfix.com as they are much cheaper. No regrets at all and the depth finder works good too. You will also want to purchase an AC adaptar to load updated software. If you do purchase it let me know and I'll tell where I got everything for cheap. Good luck!!
