How are they? Any good for a backup GPS? Seems cool to have both a handheld GPS and a GMRS/FRS radio in one little unit. I have a set of the FRS radios and they really suck, the 2 mile range is more like 1/2 mile and I have the best ones made (read: most expensive). The GMRS is supposed to go 4 miles, so I figure they will get at least 2 miles?? I use them for skiing.

The are both the same except the 120 has 8 Mb of memory for downloading map info, the 110 only has 1MB.

Would love to hear comments on them? How water proof are they if at all?

BTW, it's really hard to see url's that are posted as text in the new color screen, but if you click on my "read here" above, there is a link.

I may mention this to WnW

That Geo thingy dot com is an "interesting" site. A sport of finding hidden tuperware containers with keychains in them using a GPS unit?? I think they need to go out and buy boats!!

Thanks for the link though squid, lots of good info on handheld gps units there.

ok, could'nt wait any longer. Bought one the rino 120. Just startin to play with it.

So far, pretty cool little GPS/Radio. The software on it is REALLY easy to use and intuitive. Have'nt read any of the manual and pretty sure I've found everything in it. Nice clear backlit LCD display. PERFECT for a handheld backup WAAS GPS unit.

Problems so far:
1. Battery cover sucks. A weird triangular shaped thing to fit 3 AA batteries. It is weird shaped to fit the thrid battery. The battery cover should be flattened and a battery "pack" designed to fit in it.

2. No Recharging capability. Absolutely rediculous. Why they didn't make a a flat re-chargable battery pack to fit in it (which would fix #1 problem also) and sell a charger with it is beyond me??? Who wants to replace AA batteries all day?? Geeeeesh!!

3. It needs MP3 and/or FM radio capability. It has 8mb memeory, which should be bumped up to 64 and MP3 sofware added (should be VERY easy). Then you can listen to your favorite MP3's while skiing and still be listening for you wife saying "Meet me at the lodge!".
