Looking for new electronics for my new rig. I currently have a Garmin 240 depthfinder and Garmin map 76 GPS. The 240 is driving me crazy due to a lousy install....shorts out going over small chop and doesnt read while on plane and moving out. The map 76 is ok but even after getting the video, Im still a little shakey on remembering how to use the thing. What about GPS for dummies?

Sounds like a transducer placement issue on the transducer. Check bennettmarine.com for videos for your GPS. Lowrance has PC software for most of their units that let you play with the unit on the PC so you don't have to train when it on your boat.

Some don't recommend it but I ran my 240 straight to one of my batteries and it never looses signal at any speed or wave condition. Transducer is flush with bottom of boat and in area without high turbulence. I was very happy with the 240. Just bought a new boat and decided to upgrade to color. Am waiting on the Garmin 250C I ordered to arrive.
