Default King 1350 Paper Machine

I'm looking at a boat that is loaded with nice electronics, including a King 1350 Paper Machine. Problem is, I have no idea what this is for. Can someone shed some light on this, so I can look half-way educated on it when I take the sea trial. Thanks.

It is a bottom machine or fishfinder if you like.
A stylus moves up and down along the paper as it rolls and creates a bottom picture. It is just like todays LCD sounder/fishfinders in black and white.
King stopped producing this machine at least 10 years ago. There is no factory support, in fact there is no more factory. Many old timers swear by them and claim they are better for bottom fishing.
If you try to maintain it be prepared to hunt down rolls of paper and a new stylus.

on my previous boat. Been at least 10 years ago. It sounded to 1000', just barely, with the thru-hull at 200khz. It didn't use up stylus much, but you need to find a source for paper. I liked it...

Last I saw paper for those machines was around 18 bucks a roll. Almost $400 a box

Thanks for the info.

I did the sea trial today and was impressed with the paper machine. It's basically just a throw-on, as the boat has all modern furuno sonar, but that paper machine is sweet. The detail is more crisp than I would have thought.
