Default Interference on Northstar DGPS

Just installed a 951 xd. When I turn on my Simad AP11 pilot (even when the pump is not running) it causes a tremendous amount of interference on the "noise" line of the dgps. Northstar says it may be rfi interference from the pump but the pump has not even engaged on the pilot when I get the interference. How do I get rid of it? I've tried moving the ground on the dgps coupler --so far-without success.

Try separating the grounds, Maybe run the Northstar directly to a battery. Also do you have all the ferrits (magnets that go around the wires in place. You might also try twisting the power and ground cables leading to both the Northstar and AP11. If this is new equipment, then it generally is bad grounds and or power cables.
Good luck,
let us know what it took to fix the problem. These type of problems can be a pain in the ##$%%.

Default RE: Interference on Northstar DGPS

This seemed to work but makes no sense. Went throughout the boat with a jumper cable and alligator clips. Anytime that the ground is connected to anything that is connected to the grounding system of the boat (ie. through hulls etc) Iget noise. Same is true when I ran it directly to the battery and even when I dangled the end directly in the water. However, for reasons not understood by me, whenever I connected it to things that were metal but were not connected to the grounding system in the boat (ie. cleats, rails etc), it worked perfectly with no noise whatsover. It makes no sense to me at all but it seems to be working fine grounded to the rail on the side of my boat (that rail is not grounded at all--just metal attached to fiberglass). Any thoughts would be appreciated.
