Default Lowrance lx20 sonar data to Garmin Chartplotter

I have a Lowrance lx20 chartplotter.. It has a nema 2000 receiver/antenna.
The transducer plugs directly into the unit.
What I ant to accomplish is to run Lowrance and add a Garmin Chartplotter without
changing the transducer.. It would seem to me that the lowrance would be adding the sonar information to the NEMA 2k bus which could be then picked off and displayed at the same time on the Garmin.. Much like a remote display..
I would use the Garmin antenna 0183 to provide positioning to the Garmin unit and thereby
have redundancy on that part. If Lowrance or bus went down I would still have position.. If garmin went down I would have position on Lowrance.
Normal mode would be to run the Lowrance as a Sonar and the Garmin as a Chartplotter,.. Assuming I can get the connectors to bridge to the Garmin..
Am I missing something here ?? I have to verify that the Lowrance will put the sonar data on the NEMA 2k bus..

Same answer as on the other web site.

What you are missing is that the NMEA bus transfers formatted "sentences", and that the primary difference between 0183 and 2000 is the topology of the network.

Raw or unformatted "data", such as sonar info, is not transmitted on an NMEA network. The Lowrance unit will process the info from the transducer and display it, and will extract such info as depth, temperature, water speed, and transmit those in NMEA formatted sentences. Just as it will transmit the formatted LAT-LONG info to your VHF, and formatted XTE to your autopilot.

I am not trying to be argumentative.. One last try because I know what you are saying but perhaps I did not explain fully what I was after.. Here goes..
If the lowrance passes the sentences containing the data I am looking for (depth, temp and water speed) along then that is all I want the Garmin to display.. .. I am not looking for the Garmin to duplicate the function of the sonar and display a sonar graph.. I just want the Garmin to access the
depth info, water speed etc. The topology is irrelevant as you say.. If I can get the same sentences across using 0183 , I will .. It is simpler.. :-) I thought that 0183 did not contain that and the superset, Nema 2000 did..
Sorry if I was not clear.. I want redundant GPS but the Lowrance to be the graphing sonar....That set up will provide redundancy on positioning but not sonar display . That way I do not have to remove and replace transducer.
As a digression.. The Lowrance manual clearly states that an adapter cable will allow the transducer to communicate with the lx20 via the 2k bus..
I suspect however that the Garmin software would not interpret that information
properly for sonar display purposes. Perhaps something to play with over the winter on a bench..
Thanks for the input.. I posted here because it seemed more focused on GPS hardware

So you just want depth, speed and temp on your Garmin. No problem to do, just use your NMEA0183 interface on both and wire per spec's of units. NMEA2000 is overkill for that application IMHO.
