Default Raymarine SR100 Sirius Weather

Hello all,

I just bought a Raymarine SR100 Sirius Weather receiver and would like to know if the surface temperature, wind, surface pressure, and wave height features apply to Lake Michigan.

Hope so,

Dennis

Dennis,

I can confirm when I get to the boat later today, but my thought is that they will all apply.

That being said, if you turn ON the wave height, you will be unable to see the surface temperatures. That's because they are both color features, and the SST is on a layer below the wave height.

I keep the SST on, and the wave height off. If I want to check it out, it's a simple matter of turning it on, giving a look, and then shutting it down. SST is more important to me.

I used the SR100 this past boating season. No, wave height is not available for Lake Michigan. In fact, open water forecasts are not available either. The near shore forecasts are hit and miss, one weekend we would get them the other we would not. In addition, we have 2 displays and the marine zone forecast were not being displayed on the slave unit.

I have been talking with RM about this and told they are addressing the issues with a "soon to be released" software update for the E-series.

As for surface temps, wind and pressure - yes we were getting all that and it is great.

Joe, Thanks for the info. I will be able to play with the settings after installation. Can't wait.

That's good news! Thank you. Currently running v4.29 and will keep an eye out for the next version.

XM/Sirius Weather data pretty much mirror each other in content. With that in mind I can show you what you can and cannot display on your Raymarine.

I use the XM Weather service and display it on aGarmin 545. Here is some of the data that will availbale to you operating on the Great Lakes.

As mentioned above thereare no SST/Wave display overlays for the Great Lakes.

You can see from the display where the SST & Wave Height Info is available ........

You'll receive and be able to display near shore and mid lake Marine forcasts by pointing to a specific location on your Raymarine unit.

Once you diplay this you can view the Marine forcast for that specific location.

You can page thru this written statement .....

Near Shore Marine forecast .....

You can further refine your the data for the area of interest by selecting one of the numerous on lake weather buoys.

In this picture you can see the weather bouys located in the Great lakes Region.

Once you decide what buoy you want to view you can point to it, select it,and thenview the most current information from that location.

Here is a sampling of the info displayed ....

Info from the buoy .......

Another buoy ......

You can also display shore sites in geographical area of boating .........

This should give you a better idea what information you can display. Hope this helps you out.

I believe Dennis said he has the Raymarine E-series and Sirius. As I stated, currently the E-seires and Sirius will NOT give you open water (mid-lake) marine forecasts and the near shore (zones) are hit and miss. RM is working to correct this. It may be working currently on the garmin but not on the Raymarine E-series.

RM is supposed to be releasing an E software update this fall. I know if a number of bug fixes that need to be incorporated (which I've not been shy about sharing with them).
