Default Silly Lowrance Question of the Day

I own a Lowrance 520c. I cannot for the life me figure out how to change the color of land. I know it can be done because on the simulation land is brown but when I take it off simulation the land is white with white ocean. It makes it almost impossible to tell the two apart. Does anyone know how to change this? thank you for answering my noob, green-horn beginner question of the day.
Booze

P.s i have looked through the owners manual ....all 200 pages of it lol

I have a lcx27 and the gm5200.They both have too little contrast between land and sea. Unless you look from the side. So I guess I have the same issue as you. I'm using the nauticpath cards. So far I haven't been able to adjust the color. The navionics card looks a lot better.

OMG *drool* TCM I opened up the smart card area of my 520C and theres a card that says "NP-USA electronic charts" I am assuming its for the boston area. but i have never seen detail like that when I have been on the water!

Just an added point is to download the 520c demo from the website, it allows you to play with it at the computer and get use to the different functions with out sitting in the boat. I know that is probably bad idea but it may save your marriage by being the house more.

Selecting the "High Contrast" setting will also help once you've done what TCM mentions by coloring the water blue.

That's a good question, I look on my pc and there is a maps directory but I have not tried that. Maybe someone else has or you may be able to call tech support.

Well I give up...I spent an hour on the boat today fiddling with the damn thing and to no avail. I wonder if somehow the previous owner deleted topigraphivcal data on the MMC by mistake somehow. Thanks TCM I did manage to turn the water blue but since varying degrees of water have different shades of blue the shallowest water looks like land lol. arg im cursed. At this point im willing to drive to someone who has the same GPS as me and see if they can figure it out...hell if they can ill buy them a beer lol.

Sounds like the previous owner may have "turned off" certain levels of detail.

Select Map Categories Drawn from the menu and go through and put a check in all of the boxes that aren't checked...if it gets too cluttered you can go back and remove some things.

Hey txt all ready did that. Map terrain is set to high. I wish I had some contrast between land and sea but I hardly have any. I think Im going to try a soft restart of the unit and see what happens.

All right I got it figured out! Lowrance finally got back to me and suggested that I install the Nautic Path map update. Then I took that bit of info along with the good info TCM(hope you got my PM by the way) and the rest gave me and did a hard reset. Heres the results!!!

Not the best color scheme...but guess what I can tell whats land now! So, to sum it up heres what I did

Step 1. Go to Lowrance's web site and in the search bar type "update for Nautic Path"

Step 2. Insert MMC card and download

Step 3. While youre there might as well download any other update for your unit

Step 4. Power up unit while holding the Zin,Zout,& pwr key until the usa map appears(caution deletes trails and waypoints)

Step 5. Power off the unit and insert your updated Nautic Path card

Step 6. The unit will update and shut off after installing, power it up and make sure everythings fine...then go fishing!!!

Thanks to all that helped!!

Well it pays to sit back and listen some times. I have been watching and waiting on Lowrance's web site for the nautic Path update to come out. Thanks for posting the information. I would have never thought about doing a search for it.

I am glade to hear and see you got your colors straightened out.
