Default VHF Remote Speaker???

I often have a difficult time hearing my VHF when running. What type of VHF extension speaker seems to be the loudest? I've only found the Poly Planer in West Marine. The VHF is Icom 502.

Thanks

Default RE: VHF Remote Speaker???

When I installed my M602 I also installed a 4½" external speaker on the arch, behind the helm, facing forward, right at head height. My radio faces the helm, but also the remainder of the cockpit. So, when I cranked it enough to hear underway, the women didn't appreciate listening to the VHF.

Now I can hear w/o blasting 'em out.

The West Marine number for the speaker is: 1985829.

Mounted one of these to the outside of my electronics box...

Works like a charm.

The MIC!! the 502 Mic acts as a speaker when your not talking. Hold it to your ear when your running and trying to listen to something. I find that is the best way to hear. Your standing right in front of the radio, and it's speaker goes pretty loud. How would a remote speaker about the same size as the one in the radio "really" help? Unless your radio is installed far from you or in a electronics box or something....?
