Default Converting Mapsource files to PC Planner

Does anyone know how I can convert my Garmin Mapsource files (.gdb) so they can be used by my PC Planner which has the .XML file format.

I have both a Ray and Garmin GPS units and at the moment use Mapsource to download/upload Garmin waypoints and use PC Planner to do the same with the Raymarine data.

Is there someway to convert the waypoint data from one format to the other.

Tony

Can you import .txt into PC Planner? You export from Mapsource as .txt instead of .gdb and then import into PC Planner as .txt.

If you have Microsoft Excel, I have created a spreadsheet to do what you want. There are several steps but the instructions are in the Excel file. Send your email address if you want it. If you don't have Excel I can convert it for you if you like.

Thanks for the replies guys, I did eventually convert the .gdb data to .XML after obtaining some advice from CMap. Basically you open the file as a text file in Excel, convert the data to the required to the CVL file layout, save the file as a .CSV, use PC Planner Converter to convert CSV-XML which converts the file to XML and then inport the data to PC Planner.
It did finally work for me but it was a drawn out exercise as I still had to manually change the longitude/latitude data from the @ xx xx.xxx (Garmin) format to xx xx.xxx @ (C-Map) for each waypoint.

Ryder, I would be very interested to see what works for you especially if you can convert electronically the long/lat format which was the most tedious and time consuming step for me.
Send me what you have to

Thanks, Tony

As a tip for reference, download GPSBabel software and convert almost any file format to whatever you want. Its free!

Pass it around, it's only a spreadsheet. Who else needs it?

I have had a issue with pcplanner for about 1 1/2 years, which has been promissed to be resolved with a update but never happens - so I just gave up on pc planner and just use homeport (which works flawlessly for me)

The issue is that when I transfer waypoints from my pc to the user card and then from the usercard to my chartplotter the last digit of the waypoint changes by 1. example xx xx xx2 would transfer as xx xx xx3 but not all the time. It seems to me that pcplanner could fix this issue with a update but they never have had a update ! FYI
