Default J1939/NMEA 2000

On a bit of an off chance i thought id ask the question - Does anyone have any sort of list as to what engines are outputting J1939 and what are outputting NMEA 2000 im trying to do a bit of research on egines that will interface with a Garmin GPSmap 5012. I know they take NMEA 2000 directly or you can get an J1939-NMEA 2000 converter and do it that way.

thanks for any help

Never seen a list, although you would think that someone would have put one out by now. Normally just contact your motor maker with the model year and model of your motor and they can tell you what it can or can't do. My experieince has been if it is older than 2005 model year, it has no shot of being NMEA 2000, and if it is older than about 1999/2000 model year, it probably won't be j1939 either. Those aren't set in stone, but can serve as a bit of a guide until you confirm with the motor maker.
