Default vhf always "busy" problem

So my Icom VHF has has constant static and "busy" signal. it transmits fine and recieves fine. It sounds like someone is holding down their transmit key. Every channel is like this and truning down the squelch does nothing.

The radio went from perfect to this overnight. Any ideas.

I concur with Butch. If the squelch isn't fixing it, I'd give the folks @ ICOM a call. THey've been helpful to me in the past.

I agree with the above but also check all of the connections. Microphone, antenna and electrical. A loose antenna wire or other wire grounding out can soemtime cause this.

Check to see if the ring on the coax connector is tight. Sometimes of the ring is loose the antenna will become very broad banded and pick up way more than it is supposed to. Also if you disconnect the antenna do you get just static and can you squelch that out? If removing the antenna works I'd lean towards an antenna system problem. What is the make of the antenna? How was the coax connector attached? Crimp on replace it with a soldered on one. Screwed together center conductor soldered (Shakespeare style), cut it off and start over with a soldered on one.
