Default Need Help..Best Fuel Management System for Suz. DF250s

Need to add fuel management for twin 2007 DF250s. Anyone have suggestions on the best system to use? Looked at Lowrance LMF-400 with EP60 sensors, but heard a few bad reports on them with zukes. Also looked at the NMEA2000 system suzuki offers with the multi-function gauge, but it's about double the price of the Lowrance.... looking for opinions, something else out there.... Thanks!

My 2007 DF300 has LMF 400 gauges and a Lowrance NEMA 2000 network, made by Lowrance that Suzuki sells with the motor. I think the NMEA 2000 system you are looking at from Suzuki is actually a Lorwrance system. In 2007 they were still using their blue connectors for the backbone of the NEMA 2000 network, and have now switched over to the standard red connectors. Conversion cables are available. I'm pretty disgusted with the NEMA 2000 network - and am not attaching anything else to it for now. My dealer keeps getting the run around from Suzuki, and no one in my area is knowledgeable enough to trouble shoot the network problems. Suzuki changed the software that Lowrance provided for my EP20 sensor, thus inaccurate fuel flow readings, but do you think any of the phone technical support knows it? Neither Lowrance or Suzuki, nor the reps that deal with the dealer - the regional reps are especially bad, with the factory reps providing some useful information, but apparently you get the luck of the draw when the dealer calls. To top it off, Suzuki left out critical information in their manuals about calibrating the fuel flow and resetting engine selection - only available if you go on-line to Lowrance's manual for the gauge. I expected better when I made the engine purchase.

Hmm. This is what I 'm afraid of. I think I read a post you made on another thread. another guy on that post has the Lowrance hooked to a sing DF115 I think and says it's all good. Somone else said the biggest probs are with the DF300s only. The older zukes can be made work ok...? You hear any of this to be true..?> Thanks for the reply

Not sure about the DF115, but my dealer said the DF250 he sold is having the same problems. Seems like a simple problem, just needs a software upgrade, but I don't understand why Suzuki is not addressing the problem.

You don't need to use ANY fuel flow sensors with any DF250 built after about 2004. You only need the EP-20 engine adapter and then you'll get all the fuel flow and other data directly from the engine's computer. There's no need to get the Suzuki gauges as the LMF400 works the same and gives the same data. Only with the DF300 do you get a bit more data with the Suzuki gauge.

There's a lot of crap flying around about the Lowrance NMEA200 gauges. It seems like some people have had some very aggravating problems. In some cases, a software update from Lowrance is needed. In some cases, the Networks have not been hooked up correctly, but I personally know a number of folks who have had no problem at all. The big thing is the NMEA network has to be set up exactly by the book. It *is* possible to sort it out and when its done right its a great setup. I have it on my DF140 (no sensors!) and I'll never go back....

Lowrance has some great data on their site. Here's a few to get you started:

Thanks Ken. Good info. Where would I buy the ep20 interfaces? Most suppliers show the LMF400 MFG and only list the sensors i.e EP60, as optional items. Also assume I need an ep20 for each engine? Thanks

Ah that's easy - BOE Marine. Jim is a sponsor here and very knowledgeable of the intricacies of the NMEA2000 interface. He has some of the very best prices around and even has his own DF250 (I think its a 250) set up as you're trying to do. Best of all, if you have questions you can actually call and talk to him.

And yes, you need an EP-20 for each engine.

BTW - You can buy just an LMF400 from him ($121 nice price!) and then the EP-20's and all the necessary NMEA parts to set up the bus on your boat.

I went with Flowscan simple and they work no BS.I also have the Suzuki gauges the flowscans work better I think.
