Default Garmin g2 Vision card, is it worth the $$$

I have a Garmin 4212 network and like to hear some feedback from capt.'s using the g2 card. I'm considering purchasing one and like to hear if it's worth the price.
Thanks
Larry

at first I thought not...but then fished with it in Bumini and the mariners eye view of the bottom and terrain is absolutley worth it..you can sit directly on the drop off, not near it...

the other stuff is ok but nothing that wows me - not a big "auto navigate" guy so that's lost on me...

I am still trying to make up my mind as to whether or not this chip is worth the money spent. I have been using the fishing chart mostly for fishing. So far, I have not found the Mariner’s Eye 3D or the Fish Eye 3D useful. I will certainly give them both a try the next time we are out fishing.

Really like the fishing chart and I use the auto guidance quite a bit.

I was not sure at first if it was worth it. Now I think it is.

I use the fish-eye chart every time I go fishing. Like Glen, it lets star right on a drop off when trolling instead of near it. Just that is worth it to me.

The mariner's eye 3D is useful on longer trips. The fishing chart is better for deeper waters, and more useful since Garmin added nav aids to the fishing chart. The satellite pictures were really helpful when I took a trip into an unfamiliar harbor and up the river.

After fishing numerous times on a boat with a 5208 w/G2 Vision card, I don't think it's worth it at all, it slows the redraw of the map screen so dramatically it makes it hard to navigate!! I was going to buy one until I encountered these problems first hand, im glad I didn't spend the $$$ on it!!

at first i didnt have much use for it in my area because of the area that i fish. but went to the bahamas and couldnt imagine what it would be like without it. if you fish the same areas time after time and dont explore much not worth it. although you did spend a good chunk so whats another few hundred bucks.

Living on Fl. west coast, I got the g2 chart on the 5212 to take advantage of the fish eye 3d/fishing chart. The bottom here is very flat and does not have the drop offs mentioned by the other guys. The fishing chart goes out about 60 miles and that's it.. but up until there I do like seeing the contour lines. Cross referencing my known good bottom spots, they are all right along those countour lines.
Re: the other features, one really good one is the marina views with photos you can review before pulling in to an unfamililar port. This is great, especially for cruisers. Auto guidance is a big benefit for some. Personally, have never had a need for it.

thanks Tom - WOW, don't imagine I could have gotten a better response. That was really good. I will look into ordering it this week end. Any suggestions as to where a good deal would be found, if there is one?

Where are you from?

Worth it? I look at it a few different ways. I spent about $12,000 on my electronics, is $12,245 going to put me over the top??? It's really pennies in the bucket when you look at it that way.

As for functionality wise, I don't use the auto-nav feature, so find that useless, maybee someday would be "cool", but doubt it. I LOVE the photo's feature, both the Sat images overlayed on the chart, and more importantly the photos of marina's, marina entrances, entrances to rivers and back bays.... if you have never been somewhere before, you can study the chart all day long, but when you get there it NEVER looks like what you pictured after studying the chart, and it always take some time to get yoru bearings in a new location regadless of how long you studies prior. BUT, when you can brind up an actual helicopter view of the area and see what it "really" looks like, then bring it up on the chart, and then look out the window and compare it all, it's priceless info all by itslelf.

Then throw in all the bathy info as posted above, fish eye views.... me thinks it is WELL worth putting you ove that top budget wise!

Thanks to all. A guy at work has one and he pulled his boat out for the season so he's going to let me use it. Like Birdman said what's a few hundred when I've already put 5G's out.
Thanks
