Another vote for the 582L. I like the adjustment knobs instead of the buttons. Best bottom machine I have ever owned, hands down.

mg&fw: the i think the 582 has selctable bottom depth ranges ie. 0-30, 0-60, 0-120 etc.; how much better would the water column detail be and how much better do you think your resolution would be if your ff had infinitely adjustable ranges ie.. if your bottom depth was 130', you could change the range to 140' instead of the next range - 0-240. was there any time during the selection/elimination process that you considered a jrc ff50 fishfinder? if so what, factors swayed you to choose the 582?
i looked at a 582 in west m. the other day and the screen of that unit appeared to be very blocky. do your screens seem blocky? again, if so, should i be concerned? any other comments?

thanks for your help, frank.

These machines are not really comparable. The 582l is a much more expensive machine and as you would expect, a more powerfull machine (600 watts versus 350). The 582l is the best machine in its class for my money (I have one) but maybe the question should be is it worth the additional $$. To me it is but I know of lots of satisfied 600 users also.

I upgraded to a 1943C navnet and bought the sounder box to replace my 582, so my 582 is for sale. Does not include transducer because I have a thru-hull that I will use with my new box.

Email me if you are interested.

sand piper j: thanks for taking the time to answer at least part of my question. since i don't yet own a 582l, i am burdened by the product specs which only proudly state that it has "8 range scales from 0-15' to 0-2500' with a max range to 5000' ". how do you operate the infinite range control? is it an automatic setting or a manual device that can be easily acessed? the only adjustment that i noticed on the jrc was controlled with a knob.

thanks, frank.

frankr,
Its a manual device, that is easily accessed thru the menu. If its in your budget, take a look at the Navnet 1710c with the blackbox sounder, it has an awesome sunlight viewable full VGA screen. The only negative about the 582L is the screen, furuno needs to update it for better viewing in direct sunlight.

The confusion came with the # 600. He was talking about the Raymarine DS600X Not the Furuno 600

Big,
check out warthogs post with the link to RayMarines website for the DS600x - if you look at the title to the thread it asks for the 600x - not a 600L. The 600L is indeed 350 watts. The Ray 600x is a 500 watt machine.

It would have been much better if "die trying" spelled that out origionaly.

I've noticed that several people will just throw the model # up there
and expect everyone to know what their talking about.

Poor comunication or not enough imfo means poor answer's!

sp j: thanks again for the info. do you have any idea what vga stands for and what it does? i've noticed that some screens are touted as 1/4 vga and others are full vga.

thanks, frank.
