Default Disposal od old Epirb

I have a 15 yr old Cat II Litton Epirb whos battery has expired. They no longer make batterys for or service this unit. What is the legal way to dispose of an old epirb? I already contacted the epirb registry place and notified them its inactive.

I have an older Alden 406 Cat I and easlily opened the EPIRB to find the battery supplier and contacted them for the otherwise unavailable battery. I think it was about $165, though it could have been a little more. Even if you can't find the original suppiler you can probably find a # of lithium battery suppliers who will quickly make up the require pak . You may just have to neatly splice in your connector. Nothing complicated in mine, very easy.

Don't know if this will help but ....... http://www.sartech.com/docs/BATLIST-Issue%2028.pdf .

if you want to just heave the EPIRB, take out the battery and drop it off at a Radio Shack special lithium battery bin and throw the rest in the trash after removing the serial # and maybe breaking off the antenna or enabling switch.

Anyone want a nice old ACR Class A EPIRB (obsolete ) ? :-D
