Default iPod Mount/Bracket?

I see a few old threads here on the topic of mounting an iPod on a boat, but the links in those posts are no longer valid.

Any recommendations for a bracket/mount for an iPod? I still use an FM transmitter on mine, so there has to be room to use the wide plug on the bottom.

Thanks!

3M dual lock on a countourcase.com - the showcase model - if you need something waterproof get an otterbox but mine has worked fine for 4 years this way...I don't need power as it comes off everynight for recharge...google 3M dual lock - like super velcro....

The roadshow cable is the best way to mount it. The manufacturer of the cable also sells a nice flush mount box you can use. I have mine hooked up in the E box and it outputs audio and video all while charging off the battery.

Found the roadshow cable, but could not find anything on that site (http://www.xtrememac.com) having to do with a flush mount box. Can you post a link to it?

Thanks

I also can't figure out what you mean by "E box".

Sorry John. They don't seem to sell the old case I use for mine. The closest thing they have is the Microshield. My IPOD is mounted in my overhead Electronics box. I drilled a small hole for the roadshow cable on the lower side of the box so it is away from eyesight. The cable runs thru the hole and up to the flush mounted face of my Ipod. The IPOD itself is inside of the older case I use which is similar to the newer Microsheild. The back of the case itself is mounted to the Electronics box via 3M double sided tape.

With my setup I can remove the IPOD and the mounting bracket ( back side of the extreme mac case) remains attached via the 3M tape. To mount the IPOD again I just attach the Roadshow cable and clip the IPOD back into the bracket. I would have to take a look at the Microshield to see if it works the same but it does look similar. Simply 3M the back of the microshield case to your mount location. Drill the hole for your roadshow cable (if you can't do this in a location where it isn't seen do it behind the Ipod and make sure the back of the case is super secure). If the Microshield works the same as my old case you should be able to remove the IPOD from the case and still leave the back side of the case 3m'd to the boat.

I can take some pics of my setup later (there may be some already posted here though). I may even get a you tube video of its removal if I get a chance. I have to take the boat to service today anyway so if I have the time I will get some shots. It really is a slick setup and lets the IPOD output everything in its best quality along with allowing it to charge.

When I had my original IPOD mounted to the boat I used another Extreme Mac case but it had a belt clip adapter that I was able to use as the attachment point. With that older case I would just remove the entire Ipod case and all. Then when I wanted to use it again I just clipped the case back onto the belt clip that was mounted flush on the boat.

The new Micro case has a belt clip so you may be able to mod it to work in the same manner.

Here is my old thread with a pic of the E-box. On the left you can see the bracket with white 3M tape used to mount it. Directly underneath it below your line of sight is the hole for the roadshow cable.

Looks like the contour case Glen uses would work just as well assuming it will fit the Roadshow plug. The pics on the web seem to make me think it will. I really love this cable and would recommend it to anyone who wants the best sound output from their Ipod along with charging and video out.

Nice setup! Looks like you may have the same head unit as I do.

Thanks

Doesn't look like any of them will allow the wide plug on the bottom.

Darn, as I remember that was an issue when I was trying to configure my system. Check and see if the countourcase will fit and if it won't I would assume the roadshow manufactured case should fit since it is made by the same people. Do you not have a dry place to mount the IPOD?

The contourcase looks a bit more waterproof than the case from xtrememac. You may be better off using an otterbox drilled out to accept the wider plug if water is an issue.

If the Fusion unit output video I would say it is "the" solution...... No video means no go for me but I gotta say I love the idea and look of the unit itself.

be careful guys...apple is notorious for changing the input and output jacks on their units - hence the gen 1 - 4 ipods...I know, I own all genertions - how long will the current one work in a fusion? - I would rather have an interface to replace than an entire unit....
