Default Clarion Head Unit Cutting Off/On

Hello everyone. Just found this forum and have been having fun looking through all the posts. Tons of great knowledge here!

I have a 1994 Chaparral 2130 Sport/SST, with a 7.4L Mercruiser Bravo One, which is still mostly in "showroom" condition, even with just over 600 hours on her. I keep it garaged, clean it after every use, and maintain the engine per Mercruiser specs. I mostly go to lake Allatoona, with regular trips to Watts Bar lake, Savannah, and the northern Florida gulf. I have so many things I've added to the boat since she was delivered, and all the installations went smoothly, but one item is driving me crazy.

A couple of years ago, I bought a new Clarion XMA1-R head unit (yeah, I'm an old guy who still loves his huge cassette collection), and a Clarion DC625 6-disc CD changer. Last year, I upgraded my old amps to a couple of Pyle Audio 400 watt boomers. Pushing 8 speakers, the sound is excellent. However, I have one problem with the XMA1-R cutting out when I hit a wake. Its as if the power is cut off momentarily, then it comes back on. In rough water, it constantly keeps cutting off/on/off/on... It will do this whether I'm listening to the radio, cassette or CD. I've checked the power connections and even reseated the connector plug a few times.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
John Schneider

Default Re: Clarion Head Unit Cutting Off/On

Oops. Figured this one out. Finally finished going through every single thread in this forum and found some advice on wiring. In my troubleshooting, I had only traced the hot wire and ignored the negative side. With the head unit on, I started giggling all the wires, all the way down the line and sure enough, the negative wire, where its screwed into the buss bar, had a loose ring terminal. Replaced it, and everything works fine again.
