Default Handheld GPS questions..

I am wanting to buy a handheld gps unit for my vehicle, and was wondering if you can load lake maps onto the hand held units? If so, is there one that you would recommend? Thanks

Garmin's recent handheld GPSmaps will accept charts from their Inland Lakes DVD (look at the contents at http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/m...nlandlakes.jsp You can also load these charts into most of the later fixed mount units too.

Any of the Garmin handhelds that that have a "x" in their model (i.e. 60cx, 76csx) will accept a pre-programmed micro SD card of the same region that is on their CD rom. I also think that there is an inland embedded "twin" to the Colorado 400c (I think it is called the 400i) that will have it pre-loaded.

Garmin 76CSx will do it all. Manage your waypoints, tracks, routes and maps with Garmin Mapsource on your PC. Stream them to the handheld with the provided cable. Buy the car kit with the cigarette lighter adapter and bean bag mount. Move it back and forth from the boat to the car, all you need to do is change the routing method, and select the appropriate chart. Using it at night will eat up batteries, that is when the adapter comes in handy, otherwise one set of AA batteries will last all day+.
