Default Still no luck getting TR-1 autopilot to work properly

Well....I gave it another shot today but the water may not have been calm enough to get the job done.

For the first time after calibration the heading line pointed in the right direction. Prior to today the heading line would be off to the right about 50 degrees from where we were actually traveling. Even though it looked as if the problem with my TR-1 was corrected, the unit would not work properly. When going from Standby to Auto the light would blink periodically. Whenever the auto light stayed solid for a few seconds I would click on GPS track and that light would turn on, the unit would beep and then the GPS track light would go off. The autopilot was trying to turn towards the waypoint heading but and the Auto light would start blinking again. When it became solid again we were just following the course heading, not to the GPS waypoint.

I called Garmin at this point and the person that was trying to help me could not figure out my problem. He recommended setting everything back to factory defaults and going through the setup process again from scratch. I wish we could get some calm conditions so that I can see if this autopilot will ever work.

The Autopilot indicated that the GPS NMEA connection was being recognized...(the right up arrow did not light when this test was done).
Everything else seemed to be doing just as the book described when we ran the setup steps. It was not rough....there was a very slight chop to the water when we ran the setup steps. I guess it has to be like glass out there.

Any comments or suggestions?

The only suggestion i can give is to try pm'ing hottotrot. If he cant help i would send the unit in for testing on the bench. Good luck getting it working, because when it does work like it is supposed to you will be amazed. Right now though i can understand your frustration.

I agree, mine is not reconizing the gps right now, but when it works right it is unbelievable. I called a guy from TR-1 in lauderdale, and he walked me through all the setup steps over the phone. Super helpful, and yes it was like glass the day I did it. Good luck

When going from Standby to Auto the light would blink periodically.
Sounds to me that your ShadowDrive is being false tripped, try to adjust the sensitivity a bit. Code 368. Else you may got air or a leak in your hydraulic system.

Whenever the auto light stayed solid for a few seconds I would click on GPS track and that light would turn on, the unit would beep and then the GPS track light would go off.

1. When the GPS sends a warning to the autopilot that the navigation data is not reliable. Press any key on the remote to silence the horn (Continuous beep).

2. When GPS Navigation is terminated by Shadow Drive (1 Single Short Beep).

The autopilot was trying to turn towards the waypoint heading but and the Auto light would start blinking again.
As said above, check your Shadow Drive

When it became solid again we were just following the course heading, not to the GPS waypoint.
GPS Navigation has been terminated by the Shadow Drive, so it will not go to the GPS waypoint.

I suspected that it was the Shadow Drive and we changed the sensitivity from 20 to 25 and then even 30. The auto light continued to blink. I will call the installer and see if he remembers bleeding the air out of the line completely. I am pretty sure that he did....he seemed very to know what he was doing... it appears to be a very professional installation.
