Default Garmin GPSMAP 5212 Viewing Guages Desplay

The Garmin GPSMAP 5212 has the feature for viewing gauges, either in analog or in a digital format. According the owners manual , the feature will only work if it is connected thru a NMEA 2000 Network cable via a sensing cable to the Yamaha engine terminals, for which I have done. Unfortunately my unit does not recognize a new connection, further preventing me to configure the feature. What am I doing wrong ??

Do you have the latest software update from Garmin? It is 3.10.

And you have it plugged in to the command link hub? Which adapter did you use?

I have made connections using the following cables:

# 1 CABLE: NMEA 2000 CABLE WITH MAIL & FEMALE
PURCHASED FROM MARATON PART # MDND22A-M020 Micro Double Ended Cordset M/F
#2 CONNECTOR : FEMALE CONNECTOR
M8A5000-32DN Micro Field Attachable Connector (F)
#3 YAMAHA CABLE WITH FEMALE END

I connected the # 1 NMEA 2000 directly to the network plug behind the Garmin 5212, and the other end to the # 2 Female Connector. Now I have spliced and Connected the # 2 Female connector to the # 3 Yamaha harness, that I plugged into the engine power terminal location.

Have you connected the NMEA 2000 power cable to the battery?

As long as you have power to the backbone. Do you have the MNEA 2000 GPS17x antenna installed on your system? The reason I asked that if the GPS17x is owrking correctly then there is nothing wrong with the Garmin NMEA 2000 wiring.

The other thing ou might try is that your 5212 might see your Yamaha as another NEMA 2000 instance.

Is it possible you have a Lowrance EP-20 engine sensor? If so you will need a Lowrance LMF gauge to set up the EP-20 on your network.

I'd really like to know what info can be passed on the system.

Which command link gauges are you using?

I just installed the NMEA 2000 cables from my twinn Suzuki 225 up to the back of the Garmin 5212 and found that the plug has a different hole pattern on the back of the 5212, does anyone know where I can get an adapter to plug into the GARMIN 5212.

I have the power cable installed inline in the system, also do I need to install fuel flow sensors inline to get my fuel flow readings.

I have finally had a chance to see if the GPS17x is working correctly, and it appears to be in order ? Although, I believe that I responded incorrectly to your previous point as connected the NMEA 2000 directly to to either to Battery or main power hub.

Could the following be my problem ????

The way the NMEA 2000 recieves its power source, is from the Yamaha Harness as follows:

1. The Yamaha Harness has a female end that connector and the other end was cut off , so they could be spliced into a female NMEA 2000 straight connector, for which I have done.

2. I have plugged the Yamaha harness to the main engine hub & the other end directly to the plug & play NMEA 2000 network cable that connects directly to the NMEA 2000 port behid the Garmin unit.

3. Therefore, I have assumed that the NMEA 2000 Network Cable is powered thru the Yamaha {harness} Hub ?

Any ideas ?

Thanks agsin

I can't answer as i don't have anything other than the Command Link system, (no NMEA chartplotter..yet), but I would think the hub would HAVE to have 12 v+ going to it to work correctly.

Is there a setup in the chartplotter that needs to be turned on?
