the software you are looking for is called "Trips and Waypoint Manager" ..... it is like $29 ..... not sure if one of the Website Supporters sells it or not if they do I would buy it from them since they support this great site ...... Mapsource is the generic name for most of Garmins Software that is on CD's or DVD

The Software Tom is using in his pictures is the BlueChart Americas Version 9.0

Trip & Waypoint Manager comes with a general worldwide database that provides basic cartography, including interstates, motorways, oceans, and various other general reference detail to help you plan your next trip. Map detail also includes political boundaries, principal cities and towns.

This trip planning CD is designed for use with Garmin units that have no built-in map detail or city point database.

The most current version of Map Source is V 6.13.7 and is used in conjunction with BlueChart V 7.5 - 10. Itgives youmuch more functionality than Trip & Waypoint Manager.

Tom, your posts are great and have helped me a lot with my Garmin, you ought to sell the videos as user guides....
I have a couple of questions...? Map Source is a separate product from the G2-Vision cards, correct? Do I need the G-2 to get the full use of Map Source? Also, do you have a video on actually reading the fish finder and spotting fish so that I can use it more effectively? This is my first unit and I have read the instruction manual a couple of times but your videos are so much more informative. I think I am missing a lot of fish only because I don't know what to look for. Recently I was very close to a pod of dolphins and they did not show up on the unit. Finally looking at the Garmin site on the G2....is the G2 Vision the most detailed and feature rich card versus the G2? Do you have the G2 Vision or the plain old G2?

....thanks in advance. ;?

Thanks for the BZ.

G2 Vision is different from Map Source. You do not need a G2 Vision card to get the full use of Map Source. The key to the FF is to remember the picture is under your boat not out to the sides. I habe some videoof fish on by FF Furuno 620. I will post it for you to see. I use both the G2 Charts that came pre-installed on my 545 plus I have a G2 Vision card for the area I fish. I use the offshore bathy info.

Don't be reluctant to play around with the unit on the water. That's the way you will learn how to use it.

Tom, the bathy chart you show posted above of the Rock Pile off of Hatteras, is that a regular G2 or the G2 vision? Great detail. Thanks.

Thanks Tom. I'm going to update my old 182 to the 545 sometime in the hopefully not too distant future. Can't wait to have all that detail! I've got it on paper charts that I ordered from the US Gov but that Garmin version is really impressive. Do the G2 vision cards offer any improvement in the bathy detail?

Thanks again.

The G2 Vision Charts have the same detail but display the detail a little differently than G2 Bathy. Here's a video about midway thru you'll see the same area as above but in the G2 Vision chart version. You'll all see the most current SST info superimposed over the G2 Vision bathy charts.

Tom, need your expert advice again...

I have the map source newest version loaded on my PC. I then took a new data card to the unit and inserted the SD before turning it on. The unit turned on as usual and I did not get any messages. I then search around and found User Data > Download to SD card, which I did. Got a successful download message. Then went back to the PC > Map Source and uploaded the data from the SD card. Again got a successful upload message. My waypoints and tracks uploaded to MS OK however I do not have any maps??? Can't figure out what I did wrong..any ideas?? I have the Garmin 545s version...
